Qualcomm developed a IoT modem chip with battery life over 10 years

"IoT is a very promising field, Qualcomm will be actively involved in the field of human and material resources." - Qualcomm's CDMA technology in Japan, Minister of marketing and business development omnibus shall Yongshun child in December 17, 2015 at SEMICON Japan 2015 (Tokyo Big Sight International Exhibition Center) in IT forum (US Embassy sponsorship).

Qualcomm is now four major initiatives to promote IoT field. The first is the development of "LTE eMTC (enhanced Machine-Type Communications)" and other ways for IoT communication and promote practical use. The second is the UAV substrate "Qualcomm Snapdragon Flight". The third is based on cognitive computing machine learning. The fourth is to support developers.

Wherein, LTE eMTC importance IoT is needed, "saving", "cheap", "Network coverage is high" means of communication, before LTE emphasis on speed and large capacity. Now, 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) is promoting the standardization work, "The goal is 5Wh batteries, without replacement, you can use 5 to 10 years" (to be permanent). Qualcomm is expected to include building support base stations, etc., to 2017 eMTC practical use. After eMTC is using IoT communication mobile phone network "NB-IoT (NarrowBand-IoT)". Target battery life is more than 10 years.

Can not wait for eMTC and NB-IoT practical user, Qualcomm will be launched to support the first half of 2016 "LTE Cat 1" modem chips (Qualcomm in English published data). Cat 1 no downlink transmission rate control at the highest 10Mbit / s uplink transmission rate control at the highest 5Mbit / sec, while in power save mode to achieve more than 10 years of battery life. Sunaga means "being intended for smart meters, asset tracking and wearable equipment and other products."
