Renesas introduced a blood glucose meter MCU, built-in biosensing circuit

Renesas Electronics have developed the RL78 / L1A series of 16-bit MCUs used in battery-powered medical devices, such as blood glucose meters, lactic acid meters and cholesterol testers. The new product is equipped with an analog front end circuit for biosensing. The blood glucose and hemoglobin values that must be measured using different instruments can be measured with the same instrument. And a Promotion Board for immediate evaluation of product functionality.

New products have three characteristics. First, the analog front-end circuit built-in analog switch. Since a suitable circuit can be switched according to the measurement object, it is possible to develop a medical device which measures the hemoglobin and the blood glucose level from the blood interaction.

Second, by providing reference software, it is easy to improve the accuracy of built-in analog front-end functions such as D / A converters, operational amplifiers, A / D converters, and reference voltage circuits. Thirdly, the operating voltage can be drastically reduced by various technical improvements implemented in analog front-end circuits. Can make the blood glucose meter and other measurement functions throughout the battery life are normal.
