Crews in Elk Grove spent Monday converting old street lights to LED lights.
“They keep going for a really very long time. They supply quite a great light that could lower energy output,” Jeffrey Werner, Project Manager while using the Capital of scotland - Elk Grove said.
Town worked closely with SMUD to find the newest and most efficient LED technology.
The modern lights require less maintenance and replacing, they tell FOX40. In most, they are able to save Elk Grove roughly $400,000 a year.
“Can’t really spot the changes a whole lot of, but It is obviously better actually seeking to conserve energy,” resident Andrew Smith said.
The city spent months testing many lights in numerous neighborhoods.
They took inside the public’s feedback until they found an easy which was the correct fit.
“Really do not want to buy any brighter or any dimmer. People are used to that light within their neighborhood,” Werner said.
While everything however the light pole is completely new, the light head and lighting is not going to change.
The truth is, the one change neighbors might notice is the light won’t intrude inside their backyards.
The lighting is built with a back light shield that prevents light from hitting certain areas.
The project cost Elk Grove $3.5 million. Elk Grove will convert an overall total of 10,000 lights, which makes it the largest LED conversion project in the community.
Crews anticipate to cover by March 2015.
