Maxim's latest SerDes chipset for automotive infotainment systems

Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. launched the latest 3.12Gbps gigabit multimedia serial link (GMSL) SerDes chipset designers using traditional STP or lighter weight, lower cost of coaxial cable can support high-resolution car infotainment system.
Currently widely used in automotive design STP cable to transfer data to the automotive infotainment system display. However, more and more OEM manufacturers began to try to turn the coaxial cable program to make cost and weight reduced by more than 50%. Using Maxim's SerDes chipset, OEM manufacturers can continue to use STP cables in their design, and in the future design of the module without changing the device can be seamlessly converted to coax solutions. The chipset provides coaxial cable or STP cable drive capability 15 meters, providing ample headroom for reliable and flexible design. Each serializer and deserializer built-in spread spectrum function, can effectively improve the link in the EMI performance without external spread spectrum clock. Each serializer are capable of any of the series with the use of a deserializer, allowing the terminal to use a different interface link. In addition to providing a central and rear monitors high-resolution drivers outside the series chipsets can be used for mega-pixel camera system.

The main advantage

Reduce cable costs and weight: Each SerDes chipset can be used coaxial cable, so that the cable cost and weight reduced by more than 50%.

Supports high-resolution displays: the ability to drive 24 of 1920x720 pixel color monitor, improve safety and visual entertainment systems.

Longer cable transmission distance: chipset can reliably drive 15 m cable, extension 50% over competing solutions distance.

Very low EMI: Serial built-spread function, no external components to reduce EMI.

Industry Evaluation

Maxim Integrated Automotive Balagopal Mayampurath program, product line director, said: "Maxim provides system-level solutions for the automotive OEM manufacturers, the products can be designed to provide maximum flexibility for car manufacturers."

Nina Turner IDC research manager, said: "Consumers increasingly value when purchasing car connectivity and infotainment features, car manufacturers need cost-effective infotainment high-resolution video display solutions."
